CSIRO diet basics

The CSIRO Total Wellbeing was created in 2005 by two dietetic research scientists at the CSIRO (Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation - the peak government scientific research body): Dr Manny Noakes and Dr Peter Clifton who are also both lecturers at South Australian universities.

The CSIRO Total Wellbeing diet was created in response to the growing epidemic of obesity especially in Australia. The diet is another one that is higher in protein and lower in carbohydrates, which have been shown in studies to lower weight and improved health.

The CSIRO Total Wellbeing diet is carefully calorie and portion controlled in order to sustain weight loss at the start and then weight maintenance once the weight goal has been reached. There are also checklists that dieters should use to monitor their weight loss and other statistics with this diet.

People have reported losing about 8-9kg (17-20lb) of weight over the 12 weeks of the CSIRO Total Wellbeing diet program.

The basics of the diet are:

Phase 1 - Weight Loss
Phase 2 - Maintenance

“Phase 1: Weight loss ”

“Phase 2: Maintenance - re-introducing foods”
