Fluoride facts

  • Fluoride is a trace mineral
  • Foods cooked in fluoridated water will absorb more fluoride
  • Many water supplies are fluoridated, but some are not

Fluoride is one of the trace minerals, which means only a small amount of it is required in the diet to ensure good health.

Foods that are cooked in water that has been fluoridated will absorb more of the fluoride and have a higher fluoride content than food cooked in water that has not been fluoridated.

Many water supplies around the world have fluoride added to them, due to council or local government approval for the fluoridation. Some water supplies, even in the same country, do not allow fluoridation of their water supply. Check with the local council to know for sure.
