- Adults (51-70 years) - 400IU (10mcg)
- Adults (over 70 years) - 600IU (15mcg)
- Pregnant women (all ages) - 200IU (5mcg)
- Lactating women (all ages) - 200IU (5mcg)
There is an established recommended daily intake and tolerable upper limit for vitamin D
Tolerable Upper Limit
There is also a tolerable upper limit for Vitamin D - this is the maximum that can be safely taken of this vitamin before it produces serious and toxic side effects:
- Infants (0-12 months) - 1000IU (25mcg)
- Children (1-8 years) - 1000IU (25mcg)
- Children (9-18 years) - 2000IU (50mcg)
- Adults (19-50 years) - 2000IU (50mcg)
- Adults (over 51 years) - 2000IU (50mcg)
- Pregnant women (all ages) - 2000IU (50mcg)
- Lactating women (all ages) - 2000IU (50mcg)
Note: 40 IU = 1 mcg vitamin D
