Tyrosine has interactions with the following medications and supplements:
- Amphetamines
People taking amphetamines may benefit from taking tyrosine supplements as this medication may cause lowered levels of tyrosine, especially when it is taken long term. People taking amphetamines long term need to seek the advice of their doctor to determine how much tyrosine supplementation is needed. - MAO Inhibitors (a class of antidepressants)
People takeing MAOI's must not use tyrosine supplements - the tyrosine may increase blood pressure to dangerous levels. People taking MAOIs must also decrease foods rich in tyrosine in their diet too.
